Filters and the filter sweep

Turn a deck's filter by hand, also during an automix, and add a gentle filter sweep to a planned mix.

Each deck has a DJ filter on its mixer channel. Turned to the left it is a low-pass (it closes down the highs); to the right it is a high-pass (it thins out the bass); in the middle it is off.

  1. On the Performance screen or in the Mixer, turn a deck's FILTER knob.
  2. While an automix or a set is playing, turning a filter does not stop the mix. The plan stops moving that deck's filter, and your setting stays when the mix ends.

The filter sweep is a classic blend: the leaving track's filter eases in as a gentle high-pass (about 160 Hz, so only the sub-bass thins), stays while both tracks play, and opens again when the bass changes hands.

  1. In the Transition Lab, open LIVE DIRECTOR and press Plan mix.
  2. Switch on Gentle filter sweep on the leaving track, under the EQ moves.
  3. Play the mix, then rate it. The Director learns from your ratings whether you like it.

Tip. The Director does not choose the sweep by itself yet: its simulation finds nothing to gain from it, because the arriving bass is already held back. It is a matter of taste, which is why it is yours to switch on.

Tip. Touching an equaliser knob during an automix still hands control back to you.
