Loops

Repeat part of a track: 1 to 4 beats, 1 to 32 bars, or a whole phrase.

A loop repeats a stretch of the playing track until you leave it. It always starts on a beat and is a whole number of beats long, so the track stays in time with the other deck and you can leave the loop without the beat slipping.

  1. Load and analyse a track so it has a beat grid, and play it.
  2. Press a length under LOOP: 1, 2 or 4 beats, or 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 bars. The loop starts on the beat nearest to where the deck is.
  3. Use Phrase for a whole phrase (4, 8 or 16 bars, counted from the start of the section the deck is in) or Whole section.
  4. Press ½ or ×2 to make the loop shorter or longer. The start stays where it is.
  5. Press Exit to leave: the loop finishes the pass that is playing and the track carries on from the end of the loop.

The buttons are under each deck on the Performance screen and in the Transition Lab's Decks section.

Tip. Loops do not touch the faders or the crossfader, so you can loop a deck while an automix or a set is playing and the mix carries on. The one exception: the leaving deck cannot be looped while its mix is running, because where it is in the track says how far the mix has got. Loop it after the mix, or loop the arriving deck. While the leaving deck is looped before its mix point, the automix waits for you to leave the loop.

Tip. A loop that is too short to start in time begins a pass later; if you press a loop near the very end of the track it moves earlier.
