Record a video of the app (Mac)

Make a walkthrough video with sound from the Debug menu.

The Mac app can record its own window, with the sound it is playing, to a video file. It is meant for making walkthroughs and tutorials. You find it in the Debug menu in the menu bar.

  1. Choose Debug, then Start Recording (with sound), or press ⌥⇧⌘R. The first time, macOS asks for permission: switch A/B TEKNIQ on under Privacy and Security, then Screen and System Audio Recording, and try again. macOS may ask you to quit and reopen the app first.
  2. Carry on as normal. The window, the cursor and the sound of the app are recorded at 30 frames a second.
  3. Choose Debug, then Stop Recording (or press ⌥⇧⌘R again). The finished video opens in Finder, in the Movies folder under A-B TEKNIQ Recordings.

Two switches in the same menu change what is recorded. Include the Microphone adds your voice for a voice-over (macOS asks for the microphone the first time). Record the Whole Display records the whole screen and the sound of all apps instead of just this window. Both switches are locked while a recording runs.

Tip. Quit the app only after stopping the recording: a recording that is cut off by quitting may not play. The permission may need switching on again after an update.
